The first Pacific Data Sovereignty Network (PDSN) Meeting for 2021 was held at the MIT Pasifika Community Center in February and was a great opportunity for our PDSN members to come together again after a disruptive year of COVID-19.
The Pacific Data Sovereignty Consultation Document was at the centre of discussions for the first half of the meeting. Members present validated, challenged and promoted meanings, concepts and important principles of Pacific Data Sovereignty. These insights and comments will be collated together with other feedback over the coming month. We also invite you to participate in this consultation process through the survey link or directly via email at [email protected].
Members also had the opportunity to meet with the CEO of Statistics NZ – Mark Sowden and CEO of the Ministry for Pacific Peoples – Laulu Mac Leauanae over a zoom meeting to discuss concerns highlighted over recent years about the Census and Statistics NZ processes. Opportunities to address issues, gaps and challenges and to find constructive ways of working together were acknowledged. Watch this space for more information to come.
We encourage you to read the PDS consultation document and to have your say on the Charter and Guidelines. The survey link will guide you through the document sections and questions: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/9YYW7FP. The survey will be open until Friday 16 April 2020. If you have any questions about the consultation document please contact Nalei Taufa at [email protected].
